What does GOTS certification actually mean?

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certifies the entire supply chain — fiber, spinning, dyeing, finishing, and sewing — and bans a long list of chemical inputs. Look for certification on the finished product, not just the cotton it was made from.

Is organic cotton actually better?

Organic cotton isn't inherently softer, but certification reliably gets you the absence of harsh chemical finishes and residues. The real win is what's not in it.

What's the difference between percale and sateen?

They're weaves, not materials. Percale is a crisp, matte, breathable weave that sleeps cool. Sateen floats more yarn on the surface for a smooth, lustrous, slightly warmer feel. Hot sleepers tend to prefer percale; lovers of a silky hand prefer sateen.

Are higher thread counts better?

No. Above roughly 400, gains flatten, and many counts over 600 are inflated by counting multi-ply yarn as multiple threads. Fiber length and weave matter far more than the number on the package.

Is “bamboo” bedding really organic?

Almost all “bamboo” fabric is rayon — bamboo cellulose dissolved in a solvent and reconstituted. Without OEKO-TEX certification on the finished textile, a “bamboo” label tells you little.

How does iOrganic choose what to sell?

We curate for organic and naturally-made materials and highlight the certifications that matter (GOTS, GOLS, OEKO-TEX, Fair Trade). Every product lists its fiber content, weave, and origin where available, so you can judge it for yourself. We don't lab-test products ourselves, and we don't take payment for placement.

How do I care for organic cotton and linen?

Wash cold or warm, never hot. Skip fabric softener — it coats the fiber and reduces breathability and absorbency. Line-dry or tumble on low. See our Care Guide.
