Twelve 100% cotton napkins in a plaid weave, 20 inches square and hemmed on all four sides so the edges do not fray in the wash.
Twenty inches is a generous size — large enough to cover a lap properly, and useful as a bread cloth or a small placemat. Machine washable, and a set of twelve is enough to stop reaching for paper.
